Dubai Press Club Holds Workshop on United Arab Emirates Media Content Standards
The Dubai Press Club, in coordination with the National Media Authority, conducted a specialized industry workshop detailed as "The UAE's Media Content Standards" to outline the legislative and regulatory frameworks governing local media operations.
The session, led by Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Vice Chairman of the National Media Authority, focused on the implementation of the country's Media Regulation Law and its executive regulations, which were enacted in 2023. The briefing presented an overview of regulatory decisions affecting traditional broadcasting alongside emerging sectors, including digital media, electronic gaming, artificial intelligence application, and on-demand streaming platforms.
According to regulatory officials, the framework balances industry development with institutional oversight. The workshop detailed administrative enforcement guidelines, including Cabinet resolutions regarding penalties, violations, and media service fees. It further outlined legal safeguards designed to address public misinformation, mandate reliance on official sources, enforce individual privacy protections, and restrict content deemed harmful to minors or socially inflammatory.
The event was attended by Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, and Maryam Al Mulla, Director of the Dubai Press Club, alongside regional content creators and media specialists.
