Dubai Launches Traffic Infrastructure Adjustments at 28 Locations
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated a series of targeted infrastructure modifications across 28 locations in the emirate, scheduled for completion between July and September 2026.
The targeted projects - classified by the transit authority as traffic "Quick Wins" - comprise 21 general road corridors, four school zones, and three development areas. The works are intentionally scheduled during the summer academic holiday to leverage lower seasonal traffic volumes and accelerate construction timelines.
A primary component of the initiative is the expansion of Emirates Road. The project adds two new lanes across a five-kilometer section extending from the Sharjah border toward Al Amardi Street. RTA technical models project the widening will reduce peak-hour journey times along the corridor by 25 percent.
Additional road adjustments to optimize capacity and decrease vehicle queuing include intersection upgrades at Trade Centre Street and Marasi Drive in Business Bay, lane expansions on Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near the Al Quoz Industrial Area, and a right-turn lane expansion from Ras Al Khor Road toward Dubai - Al Ain Road.
In preparation for the upcoming academic year, the RTA is also constructing new parking infrastructure at the Zayed Educational Complex in Al Mizhar 2 and Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif to regulate traffic during peak morning and afternoon drop-off hours.
According to the authority, the 28 specific locations were selected based on historical traffic data, field surveys, analytics from intelligent transport systems, and public feedback.
